Rural villages

In addition to the urban city area, the city of Jena consists of a rural settlement area with a large number of village-like districts that are valuable in terms of landscape and cultural history. These give the city its distinctive identity.

It is the aim of the city of Jena to preserve the uniqueness of the historically grown village pictures of the rural districts in their kind and to develop them cautiously.

Urban development in Jena is not conceivable without the development of the landscape and its rural districts.

In order to support this positive development, the department of urban development and urban planning has examined the 20 rural localities and six historic town centres of the city of Jena with regard to the situation in terms of use structure, construction and design in the "Development concept for the rural localities and historic town centres of the city of Jena".

In an inventory, existing deficiencies of the rural districts and historic town centres were presented and the achieved status of the local development was tabulated in a strength-weakness profile. The urban development study focuses on statements about the city-wide land management as well as the establishment of development concepts with fields of action and measures.

On 26.08.2015, the development concept for the rural districts and historic town centres of the city of Jena, which was created in the participatory planning process, was confirmed as an urban action concept (15-0411-BV). This is intended to support the work of the local districts in the coming years and provide a guideline for action for the daily work of the local districts and the specialist departments.
