Task of regional planning
The task of regional planning is to draw up and update higher-level, supra-local and summary plans (regional plans) and to coordinate all spatially significant planning in ecological, economic, transport, social, cultural and other infrastructural terms.
The regional planning communities are responsible for regional planning in the Free State of Thuringia.
The city of Jena participates in the regional planning via the countercurrent principle. It is a member of the Regional Planning Community East Thuringia.
In the course of advancing globalization, cooperation and networking are becoming increasingly important.
The aim is to work together on the basis of the voluntary association of cooperation partners within a region to
- improving the national and international perception of the region
- the expansion and strengthening of the region's infrastructures
- and the strengthening of competitiveness
This requires all cooperation partners and sub-regions to identify their own potentials and the potentials of the region and to develop suitable strategies for their activation in order to position themselves in the national and international framework by combining and bundling the strengths of the individual partners through joint projects.
The city of Jena has taken advantage of the associated opportunities and is actively involved in the ImPulsRegion Erfurt-Weimar-Jena and the European Metropolitan Region of Central Germany.
