Online participation in the climate-friendly design of Ernst Abbe Square
How can Jena's heat hotspot become a climate oasis? After the initial plans for the redesign in 2012, for which no joint financing concept was found among the owners, the redesign is now being carried out as part of the "Adaptation of urban spaces to climate change" funding program. Based on the project outline submitted, the federal government is supporting the redesign with around €6.3 million, which corresponds to around 85% of the estimated costs.
Public participation as an important component of planning
Public participation will play an important role in the entire process of designing the square. The first step was a participation workshop on 12.04.2024; the second step will be the opportunity to get involved online via the City of Jena's participation platform until 12.05.2024.
All interested parties are cordially invited to take part. In addition to a vote on the results developed in the first workshop, there will be an opportunity to discuss requirements, problems and potential. The results of both participation phases - in addition to the requirements of the funding body - will be incorporated into the new terms of reference.
Further information can be found in the press release dated 15.04.2024 and on the participation platform. The platform will also provide regular updates on the next steps in the planning and implementation process.
