Award ceremonies for the Jena Façade Prize 2020 launched

28th façade prize

Thanks to private sponsors , the city of Jena was able to awardthe Jena Façade Prize for the 28th timethis year . A total of €9,800 was available as prize money, divided between the main prizeand the awards. Only recognitions without prize money are awardedto public contractors and major players in the housing market .

13 applications received

By the beginning of October ,13 applications had beenreceived. These cover a wide range of projects. They range fromsmaller and larger private residential buildings to public institutions andmixed-usebuildings, as well as commercialbuildings.

The jury, which consisted of representatives of the sponsors, the city administration and a member of the architectural advisory board, met on 12.11.2020. Due to the difficult situation regarding the organization of a central award ceremony, the jury decided to present the prizes this year individually on a small scale at the respective prize-winning property.

In addition to the main prize, the jury awarded commendations and recognitions. The special energy prize was not awardedthis yearaccording to the decision of the jury .

Recognition for Municipal Real Estate Jena

The award ceremonies kicked off today in the form of an award to the municipal real estate company Kommunale Immobilien Jena for the new building of the Wenigenjena Community School, Jenzigweg 29 (design: RKW Achitektur Leipzig).

Mr. Heyder (HEYX Engineering, Hermstedt) and Ms. Rietz (Head of Urban Planning) presented the certificate and the award plaque on behalf of the sponsors. The jury praised the clever structuring of the very large building mass throughvarious design elements on the façades. The external appearance of the building is appropriate to the planning task and shows in an exemplary manner howthe "internal use"can bemade visible on the outside.
