Award ceremonies for the Jena Façade Prize 2020 continue

As announced, this year's awards will be presented at the properties over several days this week instead of at a central event. Two awards were presentedtoday .

First award

The Bloos family received recognition for the renovation and conversion of their home at Brehmstraße 9 (planning: Architektur- und Planungsbüro Hennig, Jena), together with prize money of €800. Mr. Seliger (Sparkasse-Saale-Holzland) and Ms. Rietz (Head of Urban Planning) presented the cheque, certificate and award plaque on behalf of the sponsors.

The jury recognized the exemplary redesign of a typical estate house with appropriate interventions and additions. The additions give the façade a harmoniousstructure , especially on the valley side.The renovation areas of the façade with the preservation of period details together with the overall color concept are convincing. The outdoor facilities designed with natural materials round off the overall picture.

Second award

The Drescher familyreceived recognition forthe new construction of the two-family house at Wöllnitzer Strasse 13 (planning: raum 33| Architekten J. Weber & D. Hädicke PartGmbB, Weimar) , along with prize money of €1,500, .The winner's plaque, the certificate including prize money and a floral greeting were presented by Ms. Margull (Ingenieurbüro Bau- uns Ausrüstungen GmbH Jena) on behalf of the sponsors and by Ms. Rietz (Head of Urban Planning) on behalf of the city administration.

In the opinion of the jury,the new building isa positive example of the integration of modern design language into a historically grown environment . In terms of its height and cubature, it blends in very well with the street and eliminates the urbanistic break in the old building. The wooden elements, together with the clear arrangement of the openings, give the façade a coherent structure.

Prizes already awarded this year

Award to the municipal enterprise Kommunale Immobilien Jena for the new building of the Wenigenjena Community School, Jenzigweg 29 (design: RKW Achitektur Leipzig).
